This roadmap describes the technological developments that are needed over the next five to ten years in the area of optical instrumentation. Scientists determine the priorities of Earth observation and astronomy for the Netherlands. This results in specific demands in technological development. In addition, there is a growing commercial market for optical instrumentation. Satellite instruments are becoming increasingly small and consequently cheaper to launch. This creates possibilities for knowledge to be disseminated to the commercial market. The optical roadmap also considers this facet.
