The Innovation Impact Challenge (IIC), previously known as SBIR, is an NSO scheme to encourage the use of satellite data by government bodies. Government bodies have a concrete question to which companies formulate an answer in the form of an idea for an application. The most promising ideas then receive a commission to develop a working prototype of this application.
NSO has introduced ‘innovation-oriented purchasing of spaceflight’, with IIC as the funding instrument. The IIC grants from 2015 focused on the use of the Satellite Data Portal. IIC is financed from the national flanking space policy of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Further information about innovation-oriented purchase and IIC is available here (in Dutch only).
