NSO and NWO (the Dutch Research Council) have granted more than €3.3 million to nine research projects that use satellite data: six in the field of earth sciences and three in planetary research.
The scientists involved in the awarded projects will conduct research into melting glaciers in Antarctica, water quality in Dutch inland waters, the impact of aerosols on the climate, and underground oceans on Jupiter's moons, among other topics. The complete list of awarded projects can be found on the NWO website.
Satellites are valuable instruments in science and offer a unique perspective on Earth and other planets. Satellite missions are developed and maintained by various space agencies and institutions, with the Netherlands contributing through ESA, among others. The NSO and NWO encourage the use of satellite data in Earth and planetary sciences by funding research within the framework of the space policy of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
The assessment committee evaluated 26 applications in this round. The quality of all the proposals submitted was very high.
