In the areas of remote sensing, geology and meteorology, Dutch scientists from various institutes (e.g. KNMI, RIVM, SRON, TNO and NLR), universities (e.g. Wageningen, Utrecht and Delft) and companies (more than 30) are active in processing satellite images and using the data for applications. Depending on the orbit and sensors of the satellite, real-time images can be produced at different levels of detail. Many satellite images are stored in archives and processed later (e.g. geo-referencing, atmospheric corrections, etc.) when they are then translated into useful information for end-users.
The Netherlands has a highly-rated sector of companies and knowledge institutes, specialised in the translation of raw data into information products and services. This so-called Value Adding Sector combines knowledge of satellite sensors with ICT and expertise in applications. This category of companies can also be found in the Space Catalogue, which also refers to the websites of the organisations included.
